Community rules
The community is the place in De Mentale Wasstraat @home (the Community tab) where participants support each other during the programme. By posting, replying or reading in the community you agree to the rules on this page. They apply to everyone, moderators included.
Zero tolerance. Hate, threats, sexually explicit content and harassment do not belong here. We remove such content as soon as we see it, and the account behind it can be suspended or banned immediately, without prior warning.
Never allowed
- Hate: insults, slurs or contempt aimed at someone's origin, skin colour, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or mental health.
- Threats and violence: threatening someone, wishing someone harm, or inciting violence or self-harm.
- Sexually explicit content: pornographic or graphic sexual descriptions, sexual advances, and anything at all that sexualises minors.
- Harassment and stalking: following someone around the community, repeated unwanted contact, ganging up on someone, exposing someone, or pushing on with someone who asked you to stop.
- Exposing others: sharing names, addresses, phone numbers, photos, socials or any other data that makes a participant identifiable, and taking outside what someone shared in the community.
- Drugs and harmful advice: offering, selling or seeking drugs, or encouraging behaviour that endangers someone's health.
- Spam and abuse: advertising, links to commercial or unsafe sites, recruiting for other services, impersonating someone else or pretending to be a moderator.
- Anything illegal under Dutch law.
What we do expect from you
- Speak from your own experience. You do not have to agree with everyone, but keep it respectful.
- Respect anonymity. Most participants post deliberately as "Anonieme deelnemer". Do not ask anyone to reveal who they are.
- What is shared in the community stays in the community.
- No medical or psychological advice. Share what helped you, not what someone else should or should not do.
- Worried about someone? Report the post instead of solving it alone. If there is immediate danger, call 112. If you need help yourself right now: 113 Suicide Prevention (Netherlands): call 0800 0113, free and open 24/7, or chat via www.113.nl. Call 112 if there is immediate danger.
What happens if you break the rules
We choose the lightest measure that fits, but we do not hesitate to go straight to the heaviest if the situation calls for it:
- Removal: the post or reply disappears from the community. We tell you which rule was broken, so you know where the line is. You can always remove your own posts yourself, via the options menu on your post.
- Suspension: your account keeps working and you can continue the programme, but you cannot post or reply for a while.
- Ban: your account is permanently barred from the community. Your topics and replies disappear for everyone and you can no longer post. Repeat offences and any breach of the zero tolerance list lead to this.
- Police report: for credible threats, sexual content involving minors or other serious criminal offences we involve the police, and keep the evidence needed for that.

How we enforce this
- Block list: a short list of slurs and insults is checked the moment you press post. If your text matches, the post is refused immediately and you get the chance to rewrite it. Nothing is stored and nobody is notified.
- Crisis words: posts are also checked for words related to crisis. That never blocks or punishes you. The post stays up, a moderator sees it at the top of their queue, and you are shown a referral to 113 Suicide Prevention.
- Reporting: every post and reply has the option Melden (report). Reports are reviewed by a human moderator within 24 hours.
- What moderators can see: everything you post in the community, plus reported and flagged content. They cannot see your notes with an exercise.
- Blocking a participant: you can block any participant yourself via Deze persoon blokkeren (block this person) in the options menu. Their topics and replies disappear from your view immediately, and you never need our permission for that. After blocking you no longer see each other's topics and replies, and the other person is not notified. Posts from the organisation can be reported but not blocked, so the programme's topics always stay visible. If someone is bothering you, report them too, so a moderator can act.

Using the app
- The programme is offered free of charge by Stichting Garage2020. The content was developed by design studio morgenmakers together with De Mentale Wasstraat.
- Your account is personal. Do not share your login details, and do not create a new account to get around a suspension or ban.
- You must be at least 16 to create an account.
- You keep the rights to what you write. By posting in the community you give us permission to show it to other participants in the app, and to remove or anonymise it for moderation or at your request.
- De Mentale Wasstraat @home is a self-care programme, not treatment. It does not replace a doctor, a therapist or emergency care.
- We do our best to keep the app available and correct, but we offer it as is. We are not liable for damage from using the app, except where Dutch law does not allow that limitation.
- We can suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and we can end or change the programme. Dutch law applies.
Changes
If these rules change, we update this page and the date above. Important changes are announced in the app.
